God Knows
Proverbs 5:21
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
This verse emphasizes that God is aware of our actions, no matter how secret they may be. He not only sees our actions but also contemplates and understands them. This knowledge is a reminder of God’s omniscience, or in other words, He knows everything all the time.
God’s Omniscience:
The verse highlights that God is not blind to our behavior. He sees everything we do, both good and bad.
Accountability:
This understanding of God’s knowledge should motivate us to live uprightly, knowing that our actions will be held accountable.
Pondering Our Paths:
The phrase “he pondereth all his goings” suggests that God is not just passively observing, but actively considering the significance of our choices.
Context:
This verse is part of Proverbs 5, which focuses on avoiding immorality and the dangers of straying from the path of faithfulness.
Restraining Motive:
Recognizing God’s awareness of our actions should serve as a powerful deterrent against sin.
Consider Job 34:21:
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
Perhaps, like David, we do some wrong things in secret (2 Samuel 11 and 12). A woman might tempt a man. They may think that nobody knows, but they are wrong because God knows, He sees our secret actions. He knows everything that we do in private. Like David, if we have done wrong things, we should turn to God and repent.
Psalm 51:1-4
51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
